Face-to-face with Michelle Phan

Hi beautiful people! So, it's been almost a week since I saw Michelle Phan face-to-face. If you have been following me on instagram, you could have already seen the photos that I posted there as updates on the Michelle Phan meet and greet at Sydney city Myer last 2nd of August.

It was a Thursday here in Sydney that day and I was running late for the event as it was supposed to start at 5:30pm. However, I got lucky because when I arrived, Michelle wasn't on the stage yet. I couldn't say that there was a huge crowd but there were a lot of people waiting to see her and take a snapshot of or with the most famous makeup guru on Youtube. At around a quarter or 10 minutes to 6pm, she came down from the stairs and headed to the small stage that was set-up inside Myer at the corner where the Mulberry, Givenchy, DKNY, and other handbags were. She talked about some tips and trends that are out-and-about in the industry for this year. I couldn't really concentrate on the things that she was saying though 'cause my friend (@missusadams) and I were trying to go up and down the escalators to catch a glimpse of Michelle (Stalker-ish mode was on at that moment).
"up and down the escalator" moment
Called her name and she looked at our side and waved :) "so close yet so far?" moment
A wrist tag that means you've purchased a collection and you can take a photo with Michelle :)

After that segment, it was the picture taking time with Michelle and I realised that you have to purchase a makeup collection (Michelle Phan's Glamorous Eyes, Chic & Sophisticated Eye Collection, Deep & Glamorous Eye Collection, or Fresh & Luminous Eye Collection) to be able to take a photo with Michelle. I was hesitating to purchase a set, at first, as I saw that the eyeshadow shades in the collections were out of my "usual" and I am not a fan of putting on dramatic eye makeup when I go out. But when I saw that the Fresh & Luminous Eye Collection contains a champagne eyeshadow that would be perfect for me, I just bought it and queued right away! (I kinda regret not getting the Michelle Phan's glam eyes collection or the Chic & Sophisticated Eye Collection though 'cause they have some products that I really wanted to try like the Hypnose Doll Eyes mascara and the Artliner pen. Oh well!)

All in all, I would sum up this experience as a very exciting and heart-warming as I finally met Michelle Phan (and even got to hug her! lol). She was very nice and friendly to everyone even though we know that she was already tired for smiling during the photo sesh.

Not the best photo I got from a photo "booth" but will do!

I'm pretty sure she enjoyed her stay in Australia and loved eating Aussie meat pies:)

Michelle Phan in Australia!

Another exciting news to my dear readers in Australia who are makeup junkies and for those who adore the #1 most subscribed female on Youtube, she is coming to the land down under, Australia! Yes, Michelle Phan is going to come! Let's thank Lancôme for giving us an opportunity of finally seeing her in person through counter appearances and a masterclass.

Photo credit to Michelle's Facebook page
There are no clear details yet for the Sydney appearance but definitely follow or like Lancôme's Facebook page and Michelle Phan's Facebook page to keep updated for this awaited event. For those who are down in Melbourne, go and purchase a ticket for Michelle's makeup masterclass once it goes up for sale on Monday (16th July 2012) on the MYER site or MYER Bourke St. Melbourne's Lancôme counter. This could have been the perfect reason for me to go down to Melbourne but my classes start that week! (Boohoo!). Oh well!

Also keep your eyes out on Lancôme counters for the Australian market release of Michelle's Lancôme Glamour eyes kit that will also be out for sale on Monday (16th July 2012).

Just another reason to be smiling throughout the rest of our 2012 winter! :-)

Topshop/Topman opening in Sydney on October 2012!

Oh my gosh! They have heard our plea! Topshop/Topman is finally opening in Sydney this October! The location will be just right in the Gowings Building (George cr Market street CBD), just right infront of MYER!

I first spotted it in the QVB-MYER tunnel; Gowings building is Topshop's confirmed location
If you would read the article here, other retail shops that we are dreaming of shopping at such as H&M, Uniqlo, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Forever21 (YIPEE!!!) are already scouting for their perfect space in Sydney's CBD. Isn't that something to celebrate for? Cheers to that!

CK One cosmetics: official Australia launching event and meeting Jodie Boland

Hello everyone! Today, I bring you all a very interesting experience that I had yesterday. My sister, our dearest friend, myself, and two other ladies got the chance of having our makeup done by Jodie Boland, CK One's international makeup artist, and her CK One assistants (I completely forgot to take photos of myself though!) in the official Australia launch of the brand's new cosmetics range. Jodie is just so bubbly and friendly! She has this bursting energy that captivates people. It's very contagious. She is very talented and is very good at what she's doing, no wonder why she made it all the way to being the make up artist of CK One and tours the world to launch their products.

CK One cosmetics is pretty new in the Australian cosmetics market and their products are very versatile and so affordable. Yes, very affordable. Their Pure Colour liptsicks just costs AUD$35 each. Their products exude simplicity and minimal character while giving you the most out of your purchase. In addition, they are very travel friendly and did I mention versatility? Talk about being "all-in-one"! Their mascara works in 2 ways, volumising and lengthening, as it has a twist cap that totally alters the mascara's bristle formation. They also have a 3-in-one face makeup which is a solution of primer, foundation, and sunscreen. And, probably their best bet in multi-tasking, their Colour + Treat lip kit which has lip exfoliator, plumper, lipbalm, 2 lipstick shades, and lip gloss. If I would give another compliment to their products, it would be that they're very true to colour. I just admire how the lipstick shades (when applied to lips) appear to be in very similar hues as in stick, itself (if that makes sense), as well as their other products like blush-ons, lip glosses, foundations, nail polishes and to all of their entire range.

Shu Uemura Skin Purifier Whitefficient Cleansing Oil

Hi everyone! OMG, I know I totally suck at keeping my blog up to date. But you know, things come at you, you have to deal with them, and once you're free, you can continue doing what you want in your spare time. It's always my reason: Exams & Assessment tasks. They've piled up and pounced at me suddenly in mid-May. I should say that I've missed my blog and I really miss blogging! *HUGS* to everyone! :)

Moving on, after my exams, I went shopping for 3 consecutive days. I know, it's crazy but its always my thing after pressure times, my stress reliever. So yesterday, I went to the Shu Uemura counter at David Jones Pitt St. Mall 'cause I was curious about their famous cleansing oil. I've used different types of drugstore makeup removers from brands such as Maybelline, Neutrogena, L'oreal, Garnier, Simple, Nivea, ZA, and more but haven't had the thought of spending $$$ for a department store brand makeup remover.

For me, makeup removers from the drugstores are affordable and does well for its purpose so I don't really think that it's necessary (for unemployed people like me) to purchase more expensive ones that has the same function especially when you use them constantly. It's not like lipsticks that can last long..... However, I got really interested with the Shu Uemura cleansing oil, when the sales associate demonstrated to me how it is used. He used a pencil eyeliner and drew a really dark circle on the back of my hand. He, then, pumped a small amount of oil to his palms, rubbed it, gently rubbed the makeup away from the back of my hands, and used water to wash it off. My hand felt so smooth, soft, and clean afterwards. It was so high quality-ish. Ok, I know it should feel the same when we use normal makeup removers but I really wanted it so I bought it! :) I bought the smaller size, though, just for the sake of trying. If it doesn't break me out, then I would love to repurchase and get the bigger size. In the contrary, if it doesn't do well for my skin, then I would be relieved that I didn't spend so much for something I couldn't use up.

I got the purple variation which is the Whitefficient that claims to clarify and brighten the skin. It was good for me because I have a combination skin type. I am hoping that it would work as a brightener to diminish the pigmentation of my acne marks other than removing my makeup. There's also other variations for other skin types which you can check here.

I also got a free sample of the whitening powder foundation.

The sales associate instructed that you can just use this to clean your face and that using a face wash afterwards is not necessary but I still wash my face with Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser after using this, just to make sure that I clean any "oil residue" left from the cleansing oil. Cetaphil should be gentle enough to not strip away your natural oils.

Thanks for reading and Have a nice day everyone! :)

2012 Bloggers Without Makeup Day

Hi guys! Sorry if I haven’t been able to update my blog for the past month. After the Easter break, I got so preoccupied with my university assessment tasks. It was so grueling and arduous to do all of them 2 weeks before the deadline but it’s all good now. And I think I already got a week’s rest from the exhaustion of staying up late to read, read, and read journal articles to use as my references for like a gazillion times so now I'm back and ready to blog!

Moving on, I would just like to greet you all a happy “Bloggers Without Makeup Day”! As I have mentioned in my “Re: Acne history and my naked face” post, May 14 is marked in the blogging world as the “Bloggers without makeup day” and we are to celebrate it by feeling good and comfortable with our own skin. No one ever said that loving your own skin is easy but what makes the process simple and trouble-free is to slowly accept who you really are. Trying a shampoo that you saw in a TV commercial won’t make your hair look and feel the same as the model’s hair in that advertisement. We have to be realistic, accept, realise, and love our own beauty because no one is perfect but everyone is created with beauty in their own ways. As a final point, I just want to ask you all these 3 simple questions:

  • Do you dare to go out of your house without any makeup on?
  • Do you feel comfortable to be with people without anything to hide your physical flaws?
  • Do you have any inspiring story of overcoming your fears and accepting your imperfections?

I would love to know all of your expressions on this issue.

Be humble and embrace your weaknesses. Remember, no one is perfect.

<3 You All! :) And belated happy mum’s day to all the mums out there especially to my one and only loving mommy :)

BIG ROUND FACE but still CUTE! :)

Love,
Pascaley

Re: Acne history and my naked face

Hello everyone! A month from now (on May 14), the blogger world will be celebrating the "Bloggers Without Makeup Day". I have just recently watched Jen's (Jen from Frmheadtotoe) Youtube channel a video of herself without any makeup on where she talked about her acne history and because of her video, I got really inspired to blog about my own acne history and show you, my dear readers, my naked face. (I know it's still a month to go before the No makeup day but I am really in the mood to write about it now. :)

Watch her "acne history and naked face" video here.

Not edited in any sort. Just added the watermark.

I suffered from acne for about 2 years ago. Although I don't have any acne or pimple bumps right now, as you can see, I still have pimple marks and hyperpigmentations on my face. I have dark under-eye circles, sparse eyebrows, and my eyelid folds are not equal. But hey, you know what, it's really okay because no one is perfect.

For about a year ago, my forehead and cheeks was bombarded by acne. They were really big, red, and painful (physically and mentally). I could say that it really affected me so much. I spent so much money in purchasing alot of products that claimed to get rid or help fight acne and I can assure you that I did try heaps of products but none of them really helped. Back then, I didn't have the courage to go out of the house without putting on makeup and I felt really conscious when people stare at my face as if they were counting how many zits I have. And like Jen, and most of the people who are suffering or who did suffer from acne, I was also that girl in my family who everyone talks to and has been told some recommendations of soaps to use and remedies ... *sigh*...

So, I really feel for those who have suffered or who are still battling acne now. I know how you all feel because I have experienced it myself. It was a really bad experience. But you know what, acne is not an incurable disease or anything like that. It's something that can be healed. Yes, It may take heaps of time to remove all traces of it from our skin but it can be healed.

I believe that normal otc products can help solve acne problems but I also, strongly, believe that our skin (eventhough we use the products that are specifically made for our own skin type) will still have different reactions to different products. Maybe some products work out perfectly for some people while to other people it does help but with very minimal results.

The most read blog post here in my blog is my post about the Proactiv Solution. I don't write things just for the sake of writing but I write them with my true view about the topic. I used about 2 sets of Proactiv and I thought that it was really helping me. I saw my face lost some pimples but some of them still kept coming back. But anyhow, I thought that Proactiv really helped my skin. Throughout the time I was using the product, I kinda felt that If I missed a day or two of using it I would have new pimples growing on my face and that my face became more sensitive to the weather (ie. cold wind in winter) and to other skin products (ie. cetaphil, sunscreen). And after a year of using it, my face was still the same -- greasy, have active acne, and sensitive. So, maybe my skin isn't just as compatible to Proactiv as other people who swore by it.

One thing that really helped me in getting rid of acne was visiting a dermatologist. She gave me some vitamin prescriptions and did a couple of facial procedures to my face and I saw immediate results. I could say that going to a specialist really gives more chance in really getting rid of the acne because the specialist will know what to recommend to you by the information that you give them (ie. your lifestyle information: food that you eat, sleep time, habits, activities, etc.) rather than using otc products that you don't really know if it will work. And your lifestyle also affects in the healing process. Even if you take medications given by your dermatologist but you don't change your lifestyle, the acne may come back.

So yeah, I would like to reiterate that nobody is perfect. One person may seem to have a very perfect skin but we never know that person is also having an issue about something else, right? Not every model that we see online, on TV, or in magazines are all perfect. Accepting all my flaws made me the person that I am right now. I'm not saying that having acne for 2 years was not a painful experience, but people who loves you will accept you and love you for who you are. "Makeup does wonders but it is not a mask to conceal all your flaws, it should be used to accentuate your own beauty". If you become more comfortable with your skin, you will be happier and become a stronger and more confident person. There is always a solution for, almost, anything -- especially for acne.

Every person, living creature, in this world is beautiful in their own shapes and sizes.

Thank you for following my blog and I hope you have enjoyed reading this post! :)

Lots of love,

Pascaley

100 Ways to keep yourself happy

Hi guys! My Easter holiday is nearing its end. After the one week Easter break, it will be followed by a few weeks full of hectic and busy days. They're the weeks that I'd like to call, the "Assessment weeks".

Anyways, I am writing this blog post of some "ways to keep yourself happy" because normal people, like me and all of you, just have to stop for a while, reflect, and think of the stuff that keeps you going. Sometimes, people just get tired of doing their everyday routine or maybe get too much stress from doing loads of work.

We don't have to burden ourselves in making everything so perfect (ofcourse, unless you're an OC cleaning freak like me) to always be on the top. Sure, you do want to be on the top. But, for you to be happy, make sure that you enjoy the view all the way up. As one wise man have said that before calling a person beautiful, you have to see them ugly first. (Okay, what am I saying?)

I'm pretty sure I got all of the following from an internet page long time ago. I wrote them down on my diary so that I could peek and read them once in a while.

*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*
