10 Ways to show your skin some lovin'

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and as they have said, “love is in the air”. Indeed, this is the season where we all show our love and affection for our special ones. But have you ever thought of giving some TLC to your skin too? Our skin is our body’s largest organ and it plays several roles in order to keep our bodies in top shape. It functions as our protection from harmful bacteria in our external environment. It also provides sensation through the skin’s nerve endings reactions, it regulates our body temperature as controls the evaporation of our body fluids, and it is also a passage in our excretion of wastes. With all these, it won’t hurt to give our skin some love too, right?

Here are some ways that you can do to give your skin some lovin’:

1.      Don’t smoke. Avoid cigarette smoke.
Read my lips: T-O-X-I-N-S! Yes, you’re right. Smoke contains approximately around 4000 toxins. So, imagine yourself inhaling cigarette smoke. Not only does it damage your respiratory system, but it will also cause a lot of negativity to your skin.

2.       Drink a lot of good liquids: Water, tea, & fresh fruit/ vegetable juice.
Drinking good liquids and avoiding fizzy, alcoholic beverages will do wonders to your skin. Because good liquids help your body in eliminating the stuff that needs to be transported out of your system through excretion and our skin plays a major role in that matter. With excretion of toxins, our body and skin will be healthier. Always remember to hydrate especially at dry-times like summer or when you’re on a long-haul flight.

(I'll be putting up a post about this fresh vegetable/fruit juice that I drink every morning. You guys might love it.)

9 Hours flight x 2: SYD to MNL and MNL to SYD
Oh so healthy!
3.       Exercise!
Exercising, whether heavy or light, gives our body more oxygen which helps in our blood circulation. With a better distribution of blood in our system, our skin will be glowing more.

Haha! Have been running for 40 minutes a day, 3 times a week :) Big achievement! I should maintain doing this regularly!
4.       Shower with warm water only.
Don’t dry out and damage your skin by taking a shower in a volcanic-like heat or Antarctic-cold water. Taking a shower with lukewarm water should be more than enough to rejuvenate and relax you from a long and tiring day.

5.       Use sunscreen.
I can’t emphasise it any further but, seriously, it’s really important to put on sunscreen at least 15 minutes before sun exposure to avoid the sun’s harmful UV rays. Too much exposure to sunlight causes unnecessary damage to your skin and inevitably leads to wrinkles, sun spots, and skin cancer.

6.       Try to manage your stress: Sleep early!
Stress can make your skin more sensitive and trigger acne breakouts. Maintain healthy skin by managing your stress better. And one good habit to manage stress is to sleep early. What’s the point of sleeping really late when for just watching some YouTube videos or playing Tetris on Facebook when you can do these things the next day? Sleeping for at least 8 hours every night gives your skin and body more time to heal and refresh for the next day ahead.

7.       Eat healthy food.
Eating three meals times a day is good but what did you eat for all those meals? Morning: left-over chips/ Lunch: Hungry Jack’s takeaway/ Dinner: 2 Large Domino’s pizzas. You have got to be kidding! Don’t indulge in too much fatty or deep-fried foods as they can prematurely dull and age your skin. Instead, eat more fruits and vegetables to make your skin suppler. TIP: Tomatoes contain tons of healthy ingredients such as Vitamin A, C, and Potassium that are great for our skin.
NOT Healthy Food. (Sinfully delicious Sichuan dishes)
8.       Moisturise!
After taking a bath, remember to always moisturise using a moisturising lotion (I’m loving Johnson & Johnson’s baby lotion so much ^_^ ) or a body oil. Your skin will thank you for this.

9.       Keep your skin squeaky clean. Sanitation.
Wash every morning and night. Exfoliate every day. Remove all of your makeup before you sleep. These are just some habits to keep your skin squeaky clean. TIP: Yes, you’re skin is clean. But are your makeup brushes, your hand that you use for touching your face, and your mobile phone’s surface that you press on your face when making a phone call, are they all clean too? Please give time to keep them dirt-free because they can harbour bacteria and oily sebum.

10.   Treat!
Give your skin a treat by putting on a hydrating or moisturising face mask, or better yet, why don’t you make a DIY face mask for yourself? Homemade face masks are excellent for oily skin (like mine) because it absorbs the excess unwanted skin oil.

So, to whoever said that you need to spend thousands to give your skin some TLC, you’re wronged! :)

Wishing you all a happy Valentines day! :)

Love,
Pascaley

  1. I love this post. I need to do all of these things. ALL OF THEM!! I feel like my skin has been terrible lately...and after reading this post, I realize that I HAVE been eating terribly, sleeping at strange hours, not exercising, and being lazy with my skincare regimen. This really gave me a kick in the behind! I'm starting anew today!!!
